The Oak Park & River Forest wrestling team is run under the rules and by-laws of the Illinois High School Association, also known as the IHSA. OPRF is a member of the AAA classification, as designated by the IHSA.

Within the IHSA, OPRF is a member of the West Suburban Silver Conference. This 7-team conference is one of two divisions governed by the West Suburban Conference.

The Silver Division schools (in alphabetical order by name): Downers Grove North, Glenbard West, Hinsdale Central, Lyons Township, OPRF, Proviso West, and York.

The Gold Division schools (in alphabetical order by name): Addison Trail, Downers Grove South, Hinsdale South, Leyden, Morton, Proviso East, and Willowbrook.

The IHSA is a member of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS).  This national body governs the rules of high school wrestling.  The IHSA, however, has control over much of how high school wrestling runs in Illinois.

During the spring, summer, and fall, USA Wrestling is the governing body to most wrestling events.  The IHSA only governs wrestling during the winter school season.  Illinois / USA Wrestling (Team Illinois), also known as ILUSAW, oversees state and local USA wrestling events.
