A slew of news: Frosh/Soph, Girls FS, and IKWF finish this weekend
Also, be aware that offseason wrestling is on the horizon; Fred Arkin seeks re-election · 03/08/2019

The IHSA Wrestling season has come to a close. This is nothing new. However, a few other wrestling events are set for this weekend. Furthermore, a few current (and potential) Huskies are involved. Read below for more.

Kidding around | Beginning on Friday, March 8, and concluding on Saturday, March 9, is the IKWF (Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation) State Championships event. These bouts will be held at Rockford's BMO Harris Bank Center. Visit the IKWF State Tournament on TrackWrestling. For more information on the IKWF State Tournament, visit the IKWF State Tournament information page. Two members of the Little Huskies Wrestling Club have qualified: Zev Koransky (Novice 74), and Joseph Knackstedt (Novice 89). Good luck, young grapplers!

The magic continues | The IWCOA, also known as the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association, completes its annual championships this Saturday and Sunday, March 9 and 10. Illinois freshman and sophomores compete in a Frosh/Soph tournament. Girls of all years wrestle in their own championships, as well, at the same site. The Frosh/Soph and Girls State Championships will be held at the Bank of Springfield Center in Springfield.

To be eligible for the Frosh/Soph challenge, each freshman or sophomore competitor must not have qualified for the IHSA Individual State Final. All non-state qualifiers were eligible to enter their respective Frosh/Soph Regional on February 23 or 24. OPRF was one of the IHSA Dual Team State Finals units, and therefore their wrestlers were allowed to enter at the Frosh/Soph Sectional round on March 2 or 3. For the Girls State Championships, wrestlers needed to qualify at the Girls Sectional round on March 2 or 3.

To view the brackets and results of these tournaments, visit Frosh/Soph and Girls on TrackWrestling. For more on the Freshman/Sophomore tournament, visit the IWCOA event information page. Representing OPRF in the Frosh/Soph championships are Connor Nagela (113), Sam Deyro (132), Stephon Carr (152), Malcolm Gray (220), and Rigoberto Guzman (285). Huskies in the Girls Championships are Aliyah Aldridge (111), Tiffany White (127), and Lila Stratman (138). Good luck, Orange & Blue!

Wrestle "off" | OPRF Huskie Wrestling Family's Facebook page just posted an image highlighting the upcoming offseason wrestling team for 2019. "National Emergency Wrestling Club" begins on Monday, March 18, and ends on Thursday, May 30. Practices will be held at OPRF on Mondays and Wednesdays during that time, and the fee is $150. If interested, please contact the Huskie Coaching Staff.

Vote for Fred | Fred Arkin has been a valued member of the Huskie Wrestling Family for years. He is a current District 200 School Board member and is running for re-election this April. Early voting is right around the corner (begins March 18), so please consider voting for Fred Arkin to continue as an important and successful member of the School Board. Six candidates are vying for three positions. We hope you make Fred one of those three! For polling information and more, visit Cook County Elections. While you might vote early, the official election day is April 2, 2019.
