November news: Lots to watch this soon-to-be holiday season
All sorts of sports to follow...and to be excited about! · 11/04/2015

First IHSA Wrestling contest: Tuesday, Nov. 26 (@ DGN).

Yes, yes, the Orange & Blue Football Crew are creating havoc on the gridiron. Yes, yes, the IHSA Wrestling Season will embark in short order. Here are a few of the reminders during this month (and perhaps beyond) that will help you know where to keep your eyes and ears peeled.

IHSA Wrestling to begin Nov. 9 | Monday, Nov. 9, is the first official day of IHSA Wrestling. The OPRF Huskies are two-time-defending IHSA Dual Team Champions, and you can bet that the coaches and wrestlers will be ready for 2015-2016. As is the norm, keep tabs on all levels housed at 201 N. Scoville; these kids are tough. Within the next few weeks, we'll get your table set (and, perhaps, then some) for the upcoming IHSA season. | First contest: Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Downers Grove North High School. This is a conference matchup.

Little Huskies Wrestling to begin Nov. 9 | This OPRF youth program has been a successful club for years. This club combines skill, growth, families, and fun for pre-high school age athletes. The first winter season practice begins on Monday, Nov. 9. Official registration is complete, however if you'd like to register your child, please contact the coaching staff at littlehuskieswrestling@yahoo.com. Click to view the 2015-2016 LH club flyer! Stay informed on the attractive and dandy LHWC website -->.

OPRF Wrestling in the NCAA | While we dust off our Orange & Blue gear (why not just wear it every day?) in preparation for the Little Huskies and the "Big" Huskies, don't forget that some of our alumni are preparing for battle at their respective college/university. Here are names of wrestlers that prepare to sweat on NCAA mats this season (additional names may be added -- please contact us if you have additional news): Joe Ariola (Buffalo), SaVonne Bennette (Wabash College), Ben Bergen (Cornell College), Sam Brooks (Iowa), Larry Early (Minnesota), Noah Hauser (North Central College), Andre Lee (Illinois), Emonte Logan (North Central College), Alex Madrigal (Old Dominion), Davonte Mahomes (Michigan), Matthew Rundell (North Carolina), Bryce Scott (Coe College), and Michael Woulfe (Navy). Good luck, alumni!

Orange & Blue Football Crew | As we alluded to above, the Gridiron Huskies have had a great season. They are still charging in the playoffs, and they host Palatine this Saturday, Nov. 7, in the second round of the IHSA Class 8A Football Playoffs. Come out to OPRF Stadium to support the Huskies! Shipwrecked: Football Huskies lose to Pirates in playoffs
Palatine outscores OPRF 41-26 in second round action; Huskies settle for 9-2 season · 11/07/2015

From OakPark.com (file photo) | Link

The OPRF Football team was ousted at home Saturday, when the Palatine Pirates took down the hosting Huskies 41-26.

Still, OPRF Football Head Coach Jim Hoerster had another successful campaign. Over the last four years (including 2015), the Huskies have made the playoffs under Coach Hoerster. In these years, Hoerster's record is 32-11. If you add his inaugural season's tallies, Hoerster's career record is 35-17. As you can see, things are looking good on the gridiron.

The football loss is bittersweet. For certain, it is sad to see the Orange & Blue eliminated from the Class 8A Playoffs. However, now we can completely transition from football to wrestling. The IHSA Season will officially begin this coming Monday, November 9. The two-time defending state champion Huskies will be a force to be reckoned with, yet again.

Below is a final look at the 2015 OPRF Football Varsity Results. Congratulations on a fantastic season, everyone!

It was a scary Halloween weekend for the visiting Fremd Vikings. Unable to topple the hosting OPRF Huskies, Fremd retreated to Palatine for a "trick" of a Saturday after an Orange & Blue victory. The 26-17 triumph sends OPRF to the round of 16 in the 2015 IHSA Class 8A Football Playoffs.

In the corresponding preliminary matchup, Palatine High School dispatched Sandburg High School. On Saturday, November 7, OPRF will host the next football matchup versus the Palatine Pirates. The game time is slated for 1:00 pm.

Come out and support the 9-1 Huskies!!

Football frenzy: Huskies finish regular season 8-1, seek playoff run
OPRF gains Class 8A #4 seed; to host Fremd in preliminary round · 10/24/2015

An archived view of the OPRF football field

For the fourth consecutive year, Oak Park & River Forest High School will play in the IHSA Football Playoffs. Due to the high number of opponents' wins on the Huskies' schedule, OPRF garnered the top seed for all 8-1 teams in Class 8A, the highest enrollment grouping. The Huskies couldn't solve the Rubik's Cube that is the Glenbard West Hilltoppers, but a strong rebound over Lyons Township and Hinsdale Central cemented an optimistic outlook for the upcoming weekend and beyond.

In the preliminary round, the Orange & Blue Football Crew will host Fremd. This Palatine-based school will bring a 5-4 record to the contest. The winner of this clash will take on either Palatine or wrestling rival Sandburg.

Football frenzy: Huskie football rises to 6-0
Pipeline of Huskies continue to qualify, enter, contend · 10/02/2015

An archived view of the OPRF football field

2015 OPRF Varsity Football is off and running...and running...and running...and running...and running...and running. That's a perfect 6-0 in six contests to begin the IHSA fall season. On Friday night, October 2, the Orange & Blue Football Crew more than doubled the Dukes of York in a West Suburban (Silver) conference showdown.

Certainly, cheering for any Huskie squad is one thing that we all do; however, as is customary, the football squad features more than a few of the young men we hope to see lining the mat sidelines come November. Huskie senior, Allen Stallings, was recently featured as a candidate in Chicago Tribune's prep athlete of the month for August.

Next Friday night, the Huskies host a conference clash with Glenbard West, unbeaten through its first six  contests. After Friday night's tilt, the Huskies' final duo of contests includes Lyons (A) and Hinsdale Central (H). For an updated view on the football conference standings and schedules, visit the IHSA WSC-S page.

Come out, once again...for more Huskie Hoopla!

Bey chooses his way: Kamal Bey opts for OTC
Rising senior chooses Colorado Springs, Greco · 08/01/2015

Kamal Bey at Fargo 2015 | via InterMat (David Peterson) Link

Kamal Bey entered Oak Park & River Forest High School in the fall of 2012 for a highly unorthodox -- and yet very complete -- three year career as a Scoville Avenue'd Huskie. Kamal has enormous talent in all three disciplines (Folkstyle, Freestyle, and Greco-Roman) and has made a choice to follow his passion of a Greco-focused future. This summer, Kamal scored a national championship in the 170-pound weight class in Fargo, North Dakota.

Kamal ends his OPRF career with a Varsity record of 102-15. He was the 18th -- and most recent -- entrant into the Century Club list of Varsity wrestlers. Kamal also won an IHSA state title during his sophomore campaign but was prevented an opportunity to defend his hardware when was unable to participate in the IHSA State Series due to an injury.

A recent article was written about Kamal and his move: FloWrestling.

Good luck, Kamal, and we wish you the very best! Undoubtedly...once a Huskie, always a Huskie!
