In less than one month, the IHSA Wrestling season will be a go, yet again. In the meantime, several of the Orange & Blue will be honing their skills in a few different preseason events. Of course, more would attend, but there are quite a lot of Huskie wrestlers taking part in the football program.

Keep an eye on these results as we gear towards another winter season journey.

Orange & Blue Wrecking Crew medal in 10 of 12; White brings home 2nd FS title of program · 07/16/2014

Isaiah White titles at Fargo (image via Flowrestling video)

Well, it was a long seven days in Fargo, and the Huskies did well for themselves. Team Illinois continued to exert strength against the other 49 states, and several of OPRF's own took part in this backed up reputation. All in all, 10 different Huskies stepped onto the mat during the 4 boys tournaments. Two stepped onto the mat in both Greco and Freestyle: Peter Ogunsanya and Kamal Bey. Also of note, Anthony Madrigal is a rising freshman.

Final OPRF Results (by Weight) | Cadets: Peter Ogunsanya (94, GR 3rd, FS 3rd); Anthony Madrigal (106, FS 6th); Jaleel Hollingsworth (113, GR DNP); Jaime Hernandez (132, FS 2nd); Brian Holloway (145 DNP); Rolliann Sturkey (152 GR 4th); Kamal Bey (170 GR 2nd, 170 FS 2nd) Juniors: Larry Early (145 GR 3rd); Isaiah White (145 1st)

Isn't it "tweet"?

Twitter's @oprfwrestling is authored by me, Brian Tideman, but it is dedicated to OPRF Wrestling and the great family we have in our Huskie wrestling circle. Keep informed of important news, quirky commentary, experiential photos, and just a complete orange and blue bled outpouring of Huskie Wrestling affairs. I have added a Twitter widget directly above, in the header of this page. Also, you can view the updated widget on oprfwrestling.com/twitter.htm.

A never ending goal of mine is to create the best high school wrestling website in the country. I'll let you, the viewer, decide, but I feel that this site is at least in the running for most comprehensive. Using Twitter is a tool to further extend the reach of that comprehensiveness! Plus, maybe it's fun! You can decide that, too!

Now playing are the USA Wrestling Fargo National Championships. You need to follow these:

National attention: Fargo nationals begin July 18
High school warriors to battle for medals in 6 competitions · 07/17/2014

The FargoDome in Fargo, North Dakota, will hold the action once again.

As has been the yearly tradition, USA Wrestling takes its national championship tournaments (Greco and Freestyle) to Fargo, North Dakota, under the confines of the FargoDome. Six competitions will take place during the nine days of the tournament: Cadet Women Freestyle, Junior Women Freestyle, Cadet Greco, Cadet Freestyle, Junior Greco, and Junior Freestyle. This is not an open tournament; each state assigns rules and qualifications for its entrants.

Just as Fargo has been the consistent home of USAW Nationals, Illinois has been a consistent force on the national scene. Look for more of the same this year.

Wrestlers who will compete | ILUSAW has an unofficial list of wrestlers who will compete in the Cadet and Junior tournaments. Note that official lineups have not yet been posted on TrackWrestling, and further changes may take place even before the beginning of the specific tournament. I found a handy guide about qualification and preparation for competing at Fargo: Overview.

That all being said, here are the unofficial lists, per ILUSAW: Cadet Qualifiers | Junior Qualifers.

Pick six | Follow: HOME | Flo | Cadet Women F | Junior Women F | Cadet G | Cadet F | Junior G | Junior F

Post script | The FargoDome will also hold the Senior World Team Trials - Phase II. Former Huskie and US Olympian, Ellis Coleman, will wrestle in the 71 KG Greco-Roman division. Good luck, Ellis!

Might, but not quite: Illinois Juniors dual to 3rd and 5th place
Illinois dual squads take 3rd (Greco) and 5th (Freestyle); more Huskies on board · 06/28/2014

The Illinois contingency continued to have a strong showing at the USA Wrestling national duals, however they couldn't repeat the feats of the Cadet crew. Illinois scored a 3rd place result in the Greco-Roman tournament. The top four finishers were Michigan Blue (champions), Oklahoma, Illinois, and Minnesota Blue. In the Freestyle tournament, Illinois finished behind Oklahoma, Minnesota Blue, Michigan Blue, and New Jersey.

Contributing on one or both styles were more Orange and Blue: Isaiah White (145), Larry Early (152/160), Kamal Bey (170/182). Track: Junior Greco | Junior Freestyle

Outstanding overall | In all four high school dual tournaments (Cadet/Junior Greco/Freestyle), the OPRF wrestlers finished with a combined record of 77-11 (87.5%). Way to represent the Orange & Blue, gentlemen!

Up next | Fargo Nationals takes center stage in the middle of July. More details to come.

More dominance: Illinois sweeps Cadet National Duals
Several Huskies contribute in the Greco and Freestyle tournaments en route to gold · 06/17/2014

Kamal Bey powers Team IL (image via TheMat)

The summer heat continues inside arenas as the Illinois Cadet National Dual Team took their place in -- and then at the top of -- the national bracket. Contributing on one or both styles were several (Little) Huskies: Peter Ogunsanya (94), Anthony Madrigal (106), Jay Renteria (113), Jamie Hernandez (132), Rolliann Sturkey (160/170), Kamal Bey (170/182), Allen Stallings (220). Track: Cadet Greco | Cadet Freestyle

Newsworthy | IL starts strong | IL earns 2nd duals title | All-tournament team | Flo: Still #1 | Flo coverage

Illi-noise | Team Illinois is unquestionably the most consistent, decorated, and powerful state when it comes to National Duals. Whether in Schoolboy, Cadet, or Junior, the Land of Lincolners show the entire wrestling country their might. For the Cadets, they have been National Champions in 2009, 2011-14 (Greco) and in 2009, 2011, 2013-14 (Freestyle).

Still to come | Up next on the duals docket is the Junior tournament, both in Greco and Freestyle. It will take place from June 24 to June 28 in Oklahoma City. The Juniors also have done quite well: champions in 2007-09, 2011-13 (Greco) and in 2006-08, 2010-13 (Freestyle). Track: Junior Greco | Junior Freestyle

You can call it the "Spring swing." Several wrestlers from around the Chicago area (and from the far depths of Illinois) are actively working to improve their skills through clinics, practice, and competition. In one competition, dual teams went head-to-head in fun Freestyle fasion. The "Let's Get Weird" brand entered 3 squads, and their finishes were 2nd, 5th, and 12th (tied). It is important to know that none of these groups are exclusive OPRF wrestlers. You can go to TrackWrestling to view rosters and results. State of the state: Two more championships this weekend
IKWF and Frosh-Soph brackets end Saturday and Sunday, respectively · 02/14/2014

Two weekends after the IHSA Dual Team Finals is still an exciting time for wrestling fans and many families. This weekend marks the end to to other seasons: the IKWF campaign and the hyper-quick Freshman-Sophomore State Championships. The eligibility requirements for the second tournament are that you must be a freshman or sophomore (as the name suggests), and you must NOT be an IHSA Individual State qualifier in 2014. Place at regionals and sectionals, and you head to Springfield, IL, this weekend.

Kids first | The IKWF State Championships take place on Friday and Saturday, March 14-15, at BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford. The Novice and Senior divisions will each hold their 24-wrestler brackets to determine IKWF's best at each of 17 (Novice) or 18 (Senior) weight classes.

Spring-ing ahead | Springfield, IL, hosts the Freshman-Sophomore State Championships (not affiliated with IHSA). The tournament begins on Saturday, March 15, and concludes on Sunday, March 16. Each bracket will hold 32 wrestlers.
